Using light and dark colors
In every presentation or document, a mix of light and dark colors are essential to be visually appealing. If you only use dark or light colors, it makes it hard to see the message. There needs to be a stark contrast between the main message and graphics and its background.
The best way to use color is to take away color
You must keep in mind that just because the colors look well together, it doesn't mean your message is easy to see. The best way to tell if your text, images, etc. are easy for the audience to see is to print it out in black and white.
If the greys are all blending in together without much contrast, then you might have to use brighter or darker colors to get your desired look. The areas you want your message to be noticeable should be the easiest to see when printed out in black and white.
